LOVE IS SOMETHING LAELIA CAN'T QUITE DEFINE; she’s never known the love of a mother or a father, and lost her sister far too long ago to remember. If a man has caught her eye, he most likely lives upon the plebian streets she frequents, and only for a short spell of intrigue over attraction. She’s drawn to people who captivate and challenge her, who allow her a small taste of freedom from the fate that hangs over her head. her family holds her in the highest contempt, but away from home, there are very few she’d consider an adversary. of course, there are those patricians who are disgusted with her mingling with the lower classes, those plebeians who interpret her compassion for conceited pity. often, she is written off has simply another noble girl who doesn’t deserve the lucky hand she’s been dealt, but only by those who don’t stay long enough to see the sincerity behind her smile.

taking anything, really, but i'm kinda wanting someone to play her arranged suitor. it most likely won't work out between the two, just because i think it'd be supa-fun to have her actually run away with someone else. 8) also~ let's not forget her little habit of disguising herself as a man to deliver her paintings, or the fact that her painting are supposed to by hush-hush to begin with. SOMEONE needs to discover her secret/catch her in the act -- preferably someone she then becomes acquainted with, so her life is not turned on its hiney right off the bat. we'll save that for a later date~~ JUST RUN WITH IT, MON. Laelia is like a younger female version of Lucius, in the sense that they care little for boundaries... though perhaps for different reasons. I was thinking that the Maximian family might have been close with the Rowenas until Lucius befriended Laelia. Her family might see his outrageous style and behaviour as a bad example, especially with rumours of his terrifying bouts of anger, and discouraged Laelia from associating herself with him. She might not have listened to them, and Lucius is definitely not somebody who cares for such things. He'd be like that crazy uncle she never had xD

i think you may find a potential friend-enemy in seliane. as he is legatus he often attends the menial social functions of the patricians, perimeter control, overseeing guests and other such labors that may put him within some reasonable distance between himself and her family. he is a big supporter of women doing as they are told, not simply by their parents but by men in general and seeing her go against the ruling of both wouldn't sit well with him at all and if asked to he might be on a mission to retrieve the wayward daughter. he can or can never know about her passion for painting but in the event that he does discover that he could have a change of heart and keep her hush-hush from her folks.

hnng, i can’t help but agree~ laelia’s family scorns anything unconventional, so they’ll definitely get their panties in a twist over the friendship between these two. of course, their deviant daughter refused to listen to their tirades, and pursued her relationship with lucius. she was instantly drawn to him the first time they met; the shock of red hair and unusual eyewear alone were enough to snare her interest. now they’re extremely close – he’s the only person she’s told about her playful rendez-vous as helios ovidious, and she’s even paid visits to him in the guise. he’s her confident, a sweet escape from the rigid world she lives in, and undoubtedly the best crazy-uncle in the whole wide rome. |D

df;askldfng loving this idearrr. her parents could have sought him out as the perfect candidate to instill some discipline in their errant daughter, hoping to finally break the girl before marrying her off. she speaks outside of being spoken to, she surrounds herself with the lowest of classes, she disappears for days at a time – worst, she’s absolutely defiant in the face of authority. these two would mix like oil and water, and it’d be incredibly fun to roleplay 8) he’d be dead set on making her abide by his rules, and she’d be bent on breaking down the walls he has up. they’d have an unspoken friendship – deepdeepdeep beneath all the bickering and banter, and she’d come to care for him, and force her irritating little self into his heart.

Mere would probably help Laelia in her art smuggling business. I just have this image in my head that Mere views Laelia as a younger version of herself, and wants to help hide her secret from her family so that she doesn't end up like Mere. not that Mere doesn't enjoy her job. She just knows Laelia is destined for better.

Mere could have possibly met her in the forum and figured out her secret. Idk, my brain's fried. But I know that Mere definitely likes Laelia and wants to help her in whatever she does. Because Mere does have a sweet side. and she'll try her damnedest not to hit on the poor girl and creep her out. She'll just have a maternal affection for Laelia.

yes plz, this sounds fun 8) although mere isn't too much older than her, laelia would cherish her as the mother figure she's never had, but also the friend that makes her forget the world she's part of. ehe, mere hitting on laeli would be too funny |D. mere brings out a part of laeli that she usually has to hide, and she adores her for it. she's childish around mere, playfully silly and completely unrestrained. if she ever does run away from her family, she'd head straight to mere's - in fact, she does just that almost regularly, for a couple liberating days at a time, before returning home without offering any explanation. also, the help with distributing her art is muchhh loved~
