His mentor, an uncle from his father's side, had passed away under dubious circumstances, fuelling Lucius's suspicions that something rotten lurks within the Constitution.
His act of growing out his hair, then using a mixture of herbs and various grasses to retain a bloody shade of red are actions that are frowned upon - something that he is well aware of. His casual purchase of an odd looking object (the red 'eyeglasses') that sat on the bridge of his nose and extended to be perched on his ears is also a calculated choice made to infuriate the stuffy senators and other constitution members.
