just to see if there's more behind the
eyes of a fallen angel, eyes of a tragedy.
Sabina watched a lone sparrow as it circled in the sky. The gods seemed restless, which worried her. But then, what didn’t worry her? She balanced on a wall, placing one foot in front of the other as she held out her arms at her side. Caius, her pet parrot, circled the flowers growing in their respective boxes beside her. The morning sun reflected off of his green and turquoise and feathers, making his down appear even shinier.
The weather was relatively fair, and a breeze played with her plait. Sabina now regretted not eating breakfast. That day she did not have any responsibilities in the temples, and she left her apartment early to go exploring. Her stomach grumbled in contempt as she thought of this, and she placed a hand over her gut. She sat down on the edge of the wall overlooking the gardens, her feet barely touching the ground.
She couldn’t think of passing up such a beautiful day indoors, and was thankful that she didn’t have to be inside, mapping the skies and birds as she looked out a large window. Usually she escaped from her room and made the charts outside, but often got lost looking up at the firmament. She was dedicated to her occupation, and truly enjoyed it. But sometimes the pressure she never experienced before as a slave became too much.
Her stomach groaned again, and Sabina hung her head.
Caius settled on her shoulder and made one of his shrill cries. Sabina winced, and wondered if any of the flowers were edible…
