BUT I RECOGNISED DEATH WITH SORROW AND DREAD, [/size] -------------------------------------------------------------[/center] Mid-day had barely crept upon the redhead, yet he was ready to call it a day and return home to sleep. His morning ritual of soaking his hair in an odd herbal mixture had been interrupted by a kindly reminder from one of his slaves - they were supposed to collect the baked goods from Quintus today. Yawning, Lucius swept across the streets with nary a glance at other stalls.
Despite his tiredness, he felt somewhat refreshed at the thought of meeting the upbeat youth. The bakery that Quintus was working at was coincidentally a favourite of Lucius' uncle, who introduced the place to the then-newly appointed praetor. An unlikely friendship formed between Lucius and Quintus, a relationship that remained even after his uncle's untimely death.
"My, my. Did I come at the right time?" He grinned, waving his slaves away to mingle and walk about as they wished. "Looks like the bakery is a popular spot." Lucius studied a strangely shaped bread, contented to breathe in deeply and relax.

NOT EVERY DAY MAY GLEAM WITH SUNSHINE
from time to time cloud and showers near. | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=padding,5px,true] A sigh escaped his lips, as he Quintus pulled himself up out of his bed, settling into the routine he had developed over the years. Wash his face, throw on his clothes, and wake his parents up. Stepping out into the cold streets of Rome, he made sure to grip his clothes to him, so as to keep his warmth to himself. He made his way to the shop, doing his best to ignore the cold, and started getting everything prepared. His body was on autopilot, just like always in the beginning of the day. By afternoon though, you can be sure that something interesting had happened to Quintus.
He kneaded the bread, his hands simply doing what they had done many times before. He was free to let his mind and eyes wander. For now, they focused on those around him. A young boy was feeling some of the bread that was already made, skipping over the one that had no definite shape with a confused and slightly disgusted look in his eyes. Quintus chuckled to himself. His father had made that one, baffling both him and his mother until his father gave both of them a wink that morning. After the first customer of the day left, his father explained that he wanted to see what would happen if he set out a loaf of bread that was different than normal. So far not a single person had even attempted to buy it. That is until now it seemed.
Quintus chuckled at his words, happy to see his red-haired friend visit today. “I suppose it is. I’m not sure for how long though, I’m sure everyone has gone around talking about the strange loaf of bread we have. Personally I think it’s fun to look at” he explained, as he wiped his hands off on the cloth next to him. His hands were still covered with flour though, as he made his way towards Lucius. | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=style,text-align:justify;][atrb=padding,5px,true]

BUT I RECOGNISED DEATH WITH SORROW AND DREAD, [/size] -------------------------------------------------------------[/center] "Isn't that a good thing? Free publicity." He stared pointedly at a trio of women standing nearby, then took up the strangely shaped bread to examine it closer. "Who knows? It might just start a new trend." Placing it near his nose, he sniffed, "Smells good, and I trust that its taste must be just as good. Or even better."
Welcoming the youth waking towards him with a nod, Lucius lifted the bread in his hand. "Can I have a taste?" A big, cheeky smile. "I promise to pay for this, don't worry." So saying, he took a huge bite off the bread, chewing as his eyes watched Quintus in tiny slits. Not bad. He munched, not caring about the crumbs that fell onto his robe. Here, in this bakery, was one of the few places where Lucius could throw away his need to care for image.
Though there was also the fact that he didn't care much for how the public viewed him anyway - especially the other praetors. After all, he couldn't have survived through all the gossiping due to his outlandish appearance and forthright manners without learning how to tune out others' opinions. Still, he paid attention to those who mattered to him.
"Good," he finally managed to speak, "Really good. The texture... mmm... lovely!"

NOT EVERY DAY MAY GLEAM WITH SUNSHINE
from time to time cloud and showers near. | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=padding,5px,true] His eyes wandered to the back of the store, where he thought his parents would be. After making sure they weren’t there, he turned back around. For whatever reason may be, they seemed to dislike Lucius, but they loved his uncle. Perhaps it was because Lucius was so out-there. They felt he rubbed off on Quintus whenever the upper-class male visited. Obviously, Quintus didn’t care though or else he wouldn’t be standing there talking to the man now would he?
He looked over to where Lucius was pointing and blinked slowly. They did seem to be interested in the bread, though whether it was because Lucius had it or not, Quintus was unsure. Even if Quintus wanted to save the bread for himself, he wouldn’t have said anything. He let his eyes wander to Lucius’ face before quickly looking away. A million thoughts centered around Lucius and his opinion of the bread zoomed through Quintus’ mind. He let a grin slide onto his face after Lucius finally gave his opinion. “ Great, I’m glad you like it. Honestly though, you don’t have to pay. It’s the least I could do for a friend.” he stated, albeit quietly so as not to let the other patrons in the shop here.
“Anyways, come sit. We haven’t talked in a while. I want to hear about the um…that law you told me about last time. The one forbading something.” Quintus told him, pointing over to where two chairs lay against the wall. He honestly didn’t care about the law, he didn’t care about anything that happened in Rome unless it affected him and from what he remembered the law didn’t do that, but he still wanted to talk. | [bg=eeeeee][atrb=cellspacing,0px,true][atrb=style,text-align:justify;][atrb=padding,5px,true]
